Things to Consider when Choosing a Diesel Engine Repair Shop
You shouldn’t bring your diesel vehicle to just any shop for service or repair. Instead, take it to a specialized and experienced diesel engine repair shop where the technicians will be able to take the best possible care of your car, van or truck. Here’s how to find such a service center:
How to Find a Diesel Engine Repair Shop Near You
First, make sure wherever you take your vehicle only works on diesel vehicles. A non-diesel mechanic won’t know how to care for all of your vehicle’s systems, and a shop that primarily services gasoline-powered models but does diesels on the side won’t have the same level of expertise. A place that exclusively services diesel vehicles will be working on models similar to yours every day and be familiar with your vehicle’s nuances.
Second, look for a nearby service center that has years of experience. Experience can be viewed both in terms of the service center itself and of the employees. A diesel engine repair shop should have been in business for at least several years, and it’s preferable if those years are measured in decades. A service center that has remained open for a long time must be performing quality work, or else customers would’ve stopped going there. After checking the service center’s history, ask how long its employees have been around.
While a few employees might be new, most of the people working at the center should have years of experience repairing diesel vehicles – and hopefully many have been at the service center for a while. If your vehicle has an issue that’s especially difficult to diagnose, someone who’s been doing this kind of work for a long time will be more able to tell what the underlying problem is.
Third, make sure the technicians at the service center you choose are ASE-certified. The Automotive Service Excellence certification doesn’t go to a service center, but rather is a credential carried by individual technicians. ASE-certified technicians have passed rigorous tests in which they demonstrated their expertise, so the certification provides a reassurance that the technician you talk with truly does know what they’re doing.
Recommendations from Others
Fourth, try to get a recommendation on where to take your vehicle from someone in the area. You will, of course, want to go to a nearby service center, so word-of-mouth recommendations from locals are the best way to find a respected shop close by. A shop other drivers trust is one that you can entrust your diesel to.
Finally, check whether the software used by a shop that meets these other criteria is up to date. With continual advancements in automotive technology, even the most experienced diesel engine repair shops need to regularly update their software with accurate diagnostic tools.
